Five hours on an e-bike with someone who knows the city and lives in it, from Passeig de Gràcia to the top of Barcelona's highest hill, with Gaudí's early houses on the way up and the whole city, the sea and the hills below you at the end.
Five hours on an e-bike with someone who knows the city and lives in it, from the centre of Barcelona to the top of its highest hill. The motor takes care of the climbing, so the ride stays easy and you can pay attention to what's around you.
We start on Passeig de Gràcia, past Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, then head up into Gràcia to Casa Vicens, the first house Gaudí designed, long before the Sagrada Família made his name. From there we ride to Torre Bellesguard, a quieter Gaudí house built where Martí l'Humà, the last king of the House of Barcelona, once had his residence, and along the edge of Park Güell for the mosaics and a photo.
Then the streets give way to the pines of Collserola, and the road climbs to Tibidabo. At the top you have the Sagrat Cor church and Barcelona laid out from the mountains to the sea. The name comes from the Latin Bible, "tibi dabo", I will give you: the devil's offer of everything visible from a high place. Up there, it's easy to see why someone chose it. The ride back down is the easy part.
Meet your guide, get fitted to your e-bike and go through a short safety briefing before we set off.
Barcelona's grandest avenue, with Gaudí's Casa Batlló and La Pedrera among the Modernista façades. A good place to see what made his name before we go looking for where he started.
Up in Gràcia stands the first house Gaudí designed, a summer house covered in green and white tiles, built decades before the Sagrada Família and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
A quieter Gaudí house on the slope above the city, built where Martí l'Humà, the last king of the House of Barcelona, once had his residence. Gaudí gave it a medieval silhouette in his own way.
We ride along the edge of the park for a look at the mosaics and a photo. We don't go inside, so no ticket is needed.
The streets give way to pine forest and the road climbs the slopes of the hill. The e-bike does the hard part, and the city slowly opens up behind you.
At 512 metres, the top of Barcelona. The Sagrat Cor church crowns the summit, and the view runs from the mountains to the sea, with the whole city in between. This is the longest stop of the day.
The ride back down is the easy part, and we finish at the same address in the Gothic Quarter.
The order of the stops can change a little with traffic, events and the weather.
Our meeting point is on a quiet street in the Gothic Quarter, a few minutes' walk from Plaça de Sant Jaume. Look for the Tres Gatos poster on the doors. Please arrive 15 minutes before the ride starts: we use that time to check you in, fit your e-bike and helmet and run a short safety briefing.
The tour finishes back at the same address.
The climb is long, but everyone rides an e-bike, so it stays easy and you choose how much help you want from the motor. You do need to ride a bike confidently: it's a five-hour ride with descents on hill roads, and we keep an easy pace with plenty of stops.
Every day from 1 December, starting at 10:30. You choose the date in the calendar.
