Three hours on an e-bike with a guide who lives in Barcelona, from the old port up Montjuïc to the castle, the Olympic Ring and the Palau Nacional, with a break on a terrace and the whole city below you.
Montjuïc is the hill that rises straight out of the sea at the south end of Barcelona, and most visitors only see it from below. On an e-bike the climb takes care of itself, so you can spend your energy on the views: the port, the coastline and the whole city spread out between the sea and the Collserola hills.
We start in the Gothic Quarter, roll down to the old port and the Columbus Monument, then climb through the gardens to Montjuïc Castle. Your guide lives in Barcelona and tells the hill's story as we go: the fortress that kept watch over the city more than over the sea, the 1929 World's Fair that gave Barcelona its palaces and fountains, and the 1992 Olympics that changed the city for good.
Halfway round we stop on a terrace by the Olympic diving pool for a vermut, a coffee or a plate of patatas bravas, paid as you go. This tour has fewer stops than our ride through the centre, and in exchange there's less traffic, more air and the widest views over the city.
Meet your guide, get fitted to your e-bike and go through a short safety briefing before we set off.
We ride through the medieval lanes to the waterfront, where yachts sit in Port Vell. The 60-metre column was raised for the 1888 World's Fair, and your guide explains how trade by sea built Barcelona and which way Columbus is really pointing.
The first big view on the way up: the harbour, the cranes of the port and the sea stretching south. The e-bike does most of the climbing, so you arrive with breath left to enjoy it.
A cactus garden on the slope above the Mediterranean, with hundreds of species of cacti and succulents from dry places around the world.
The fortress at the top, 173 metres above the sea, was rebuilt in the 18th century after Barcelona fell in 1714, and its guns were turned on the city as often as out to sea. It later served as a military prison. From the ramparts you see the skyline, the coast and the mountains behind the city.
The 1992 diving events were held here, with the whole of Barcelona behind the divers. We lock the bikes at a terrace bar for a break: a classic vermut, a zero-alcohol spritz, a coffee or patatas bravas. Food and drinks are paid as you go, so everyone orders what they like.
We ride past the Estadi Lluís Companys, built for the 1929 World's Fair and rebuilt for the 1992 Games, the Palau Sant Jordi arena and Santiago Calatrava's white telecommunications tower, with the stories of how the Olympics reshaped Barcelona.
The great palace at the top of the stairs was the centrepiece of the 1929 World's Fair and now holds the National Art Museum of Catalonia. From its terrace your guide points out the avenue running straight down to Plaça d'Espanya.
An easy ride back to the Gothic Quarter, with final tips for the rest of your day.
The order of the stops can change a little with traffic, events and the weather.
Our meeting point is on a quiet street in the Gothic Quarter, a few minutes' walk from Plaça de Sant Jaume. Look for the Tres Gatos poster on the doors. Please arrive 15 minutes before the ride starts: we use that time to check you in, fit your e-bike and helmet and run a short safety briefing.
The tour finishes back at the same address.
"Igor is a personable and knowledgeable guide. This combination made for a very enjoyable e-bike tour. The tour itself covered all of the advertised locations. The tour pace was relaxed and Igor was ameniable to adjusting the amount of time spent at certain sites that held greater interest for us."
"Igor is a friendly and knowledgeable guide. While this tour has less stops and sites than the more popular city tour, it also has less traffic, better air, and some rare views. It also provides a better workout if you want it, though having e-bikes meant we could choose our level of support. Recommend this tour."
"You have to do this!!! Kevin was a fantastic guide, and cycling through the park and coast up to the top of Montjuic was a beautiful and exciting way to enjoy some gorgeous sights in Barcelona. Perfect balance of guided narration about the sights and just straight up bike riding. Can't recommend enough—extremely fun. Also, the e-bike definitely makes the cycling easier. 10/10!"
"It was a beautiful cruise up to the top. We enjoyed all the sites and views along the way of the city below and the coast beyond. Egor, our guide was knowledgeable of the history and the present day facts. Thank you."

No. Everyone rides an e-bike, so the climb to the castle is easy and you can choose how much help you want from the motor. You do need to ride a bike confidently, because there are a few descents on park roads, and we keep an easy pace with plenty of stops.
No. We stop at a terrace bar by the Olympic diving pool, and everyone orders what they like and pays as they go: a vermut, a coffee, a zero-alcohol spritz or tapas such as patatas bravas.
Our Barcelona bike tour rides through the centre to the Gothic Quarter, Gaudí's houses and the Sagrada Família. This one climbs Montjuïc instead: fewer stops, less traffic and wider views, with the castle, the Olympic Ring and a terrace break. Many guests do the city tour first and this one later in their stay.
Everyone riding their own e-bike needs to be at least 150 cm tall. Children aged 1 to 3 can ride in a child seat for €10. Send us each child's age and height after booking so we can have the right bikes ready.
